    A low-key tonality and vivid atmospheric effects dominated Beelt’s landscapes, where he specialized in beach and winter scenes.

    His town and market scenes are characterized by lively human figures whose variety and individuality dominate the compositions.

    And no, we’re not quite sure what the lively individual center stage above is trying to do with that pig.

About the Artist

Cornelis Beelt, Dutch, (1640-c.1702). Cornelis Beelt was one of the chief figures in the Haarlem school of landscape painting, also well know for his genre paintings of towns, markets and villages.
