St. Anthony’s Swine

An old bearded man pauses in his trek across a barren land. He lifts his staff with his left hand until the tau–cross at its top rises above the distant horizon. And as he steps forward again, a small bell tied to the top of the staff gently rings and is answered by a peal of like timbre nearby.

The old man smiles and glances down at his companion, a pig that trots along beside him. The bell around the pig’s neck is softly echoing its counterpart on the man’s staff.  This is St. Anthony and his companion swine.
