Knute Heldner, Swedish/United States, (1875 — 1952). Knute Heldner was a painter
and woodcarver who spent the latter part of his career in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA after
emigrating from Sweden about 1902.
His modern expressionistic painting style reflected the contemporary European influences
of his early art training in Sweden. Heldner gained national and international recognition
for his Louisiana landscapes. His rare portraits are also considered some of his best
work.
