Editor’s Note:
In his Tarot designs, Place attempts to synchronize Christian hagiography, Gnostic mysticism and Jungian archetypes, believing both the Tarot and the legends of the saints are founded in Classical Paganism and its Renaissance revival.
Place explains that Saints and their legends were certainly familiar to the Renaissance makers of Tarot cards, because they were also the producers of the first holy cards which pictured saints and were popular mementos for pilgrims and for participants in religious events.
