Ko Un (b. 1933), Korean writer, and former Buddhist monk, who has published well over a
hundred volumes of poetry, fiction, essays, translations, and drama.
Ko Un is also a prominent literary figure in the movement to resist government
suppression and to bring about democratic reforms in Korea, for which he was arrested four
times in the 1970s and 80s. [DES-6/03]
