Charles Dominique Joseph Eisen, France (1720-1778) was an engraver, painter and draftsman.

In his own time, Eisen was renowned for his genre paintings in the Rococo ‘pastoral tradition’, which were immensely popular with an art market eager for romantic images. Today, he is best known as a designer of illustrations and vignettes for classic books. [DES-11/14]
