About the Artist:

Christina Balit, England (b. 1961), is an illustrator of childrens books, author and playwright, and also a mother, dog owner and terrible cook.

Balit is a graduate of Questers Theatre School, the Chelsea Art College and the Royal College of Art. An acclaimed children’s book artist, she has received widespread praise for books including Blodin the Beast, Ishtar and Tammuz, The Twelve Labours of Hercules and The Kingdom of the Sun for which she won the English Association Non-Fiction Illustration Award in 2002.

Balit’s trademark style and interpretation was influenced by her British/Armenian ancestry, and a childhood spent in the Middle East. She creates illustrations for her own self-illustrated works and works by other authors, predominantly on books dealing with traditional myths, Western mythology, fairy tales, or Biblical stories.
