About the Artist
Georg Pencz (c. 1500 – 1550) was a German engraver, painter and print-maker. Pencz was a student of Albrecht Dürer Nuremberg. He also later traveled to Italy and studied the Venetian artists. In 1540, where he became the city painter of Nuremberg, often painting large-scale ceiling decorations on canvas. Pencz gained prominence in during his lifetime with his engravings and earned his greatest success as a portraitist. [DES-01/11]
