About the Artist:

Gustave Fraipont (1849-1923), was a French watercolorist, lithographer, painter, poster artist and writer. Fraipont began his career doing lithographs for publications, then broadened to watercolor illustrations for books by La Fontaine and Daniel Defoe, and books about Paris and various regions of France.

He continually expanded his techniques, also becoming an art teacher at the Maison d’éducation de la Légion d’honneur and authoring several books on the art of drawing. Fraipont directed numerous posters for railway companies, including Western Railways and North, as well as official documents and paper securities. He also collaborated with many newspapers and magazines, such as the French Mail and Paris Illustrated. [DES-01/16]
