About the Artist

Henri Michel Antoine Chapu (1833-1891) was a French sculptor who worked in a modified Neoclassical tradition. He was known for his use of allegory in his works. He is also known for his medals, and led the French revival in the medal as an artistic form. [DES-01/11]
