About the Artist

Miguel Angel Sunu Cortez, Guatemala. Miguel Angel Sunu Cortez is a present day Tz’utuhil speaking Mayan artist from the highlands of Guatemala near the cities of San Pedro la Laguna and San Juan la Laguna.

One of the younger generation of Mayan painters, Cortez studied with Pedro Rafael Gonzalez Chavajay. His favorite theme is scenes of everyday Mayan life. Cortez has a strong desire to create paintings of quality and works slowly, completing no more that five paintings a year.
