About the Artist:

Pierre Sevaistre (1879-1949) was a French painter. He was a student of Luc-Olivier Merson at the l’Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris.

Sevaistre served in the French military in WWI, too old to fight, worked aboard an equipment train. At the Battle of Verdun he was wounded by shrapnel and lost the use of his right hand, but after the war he continued to paint left handed. [DES-02/16]
