Stany-Gauthier was a painter, sculptor, art historian and museum curator known for painting Brittany port scenes and Bretons’ daily lives in towns and rural settings. He was also Curator of the Musée du Château de Nantes from 1922 until 1969.

Hippolyte Paul Vayson, France (1842-1911), works include: Cochons à la ferme, Shepherd with pigs and geese, La recherche de la truffe and Enfant prodigue gardant les pourceaux. Vayson was a painter and lawyer. He was medalist at the 1875-8 Paris Salons and became a jury member of the Society of French artists (painting section). In 1879 he traveled to Algeria and returned with the label of Orientalist painter. Vayson’s greatest commercial success came from rural subjects and his landscapes, especially his shepherds, shepherdesses, sheep, cows and pigs.
