About the Artist:
Lionel Floch, France, (1895-1972) was an engraver, painter and designer. He began his study of art at the Lycée de la Tour d’Auvergne in Quimper, but was drafted in 1914 at the age of 19. After the war he studied with the painter & founder of the school of Concarneau, Theophilus Deyrolle (1844-1923).
After art school, Floch married and took an administrative position in the town of Pont-Croix in 1923, but never stopped painting. Floch was essentially a figurative painter who prefered scenes from the life of Pont-Croix , Bigouden and especially the region of Cap Sizun. He often painted landscapes of the Bay of Douarnenez , Audierne Bay and Pointe du Raz. He also created daily life scenes such as Breton pardons, port scenes, farm work and seaport life. [DES-12/15]
