To Lead a Pig Skyward

  1. I read a pig can’t look up.
  2. That you’ve got to gently
  3. tilt their heads back
  4. if they’re going to take in
  5. the night skies. I never
  6. led a pig skyward late
  7. at night in Pennsylvania.
  8. Earthbound is probably
  9. better. We all start
  10. getting ideas when we
  11. look up, and the pigs,
  12. they always seemed so
  13. pleased where they were,
  14. rooting in soft earth.
  15. No need to look up for God
  16. when the holy was there,
  17. beneath their trotters, cool
  18. below the autumn archer
  19. that was rising, lightly,
  20. on the eastern horizon.
