Bill Traylor, United States, (1852?-1949), was a former slave factory worker. In 1939 at the age of 84, he began making pencil drawings and paintings. He had four productive years painting until health concerns curtailed his output. Today Traylor’s work is regarded as among the major triumphs of self-taught art of the 20th century.

Stacy Johnson Tuthill, United States, (1925-2010), poetry includes: ALL THE WAY HOME. Tuthill was a poet, writer and publisher. She founded a small, non-profit literary press, Sound and Color of Poetry (SCOP) Publications in 1976 based in College Park, Maryland. SCOP published Tuthill’s Laurels: Eight Women Poets in 1998, which documented all the women who had served up to that time as US Poets Laureate. Tuthill is the author of five full-length books of poems and two chapbooks.

Welcker lives in Spokane, WA, where she works for the Bagley Wright Lecture Series on Poetry. Jake Adam York, United States, (1972-2012), poetry includes: Elegy for Little Girls. York was a poet, editor and educator. He received his MFA and PhD in creative writing and English literature from Cornell University. York was an associate professor at the University of Colorado Denver and Health Sciences Center. He published three books of poetry before his death and a fourth was released posthumously. At the University of Colorado he was an editor for Copper Nickel, a nationally recognized student literary journal which he had helped found.
